Wednesday 22nd July 2021

It has been a quiet week in our local sport. There is a pre-season friendly tonight. Fingers crossed both our professional rugby league sides will play for the first time in over a month this weekend.

North Ferriby return to the field this evening in continued preparation for the upcoming season. The Villagers have had a mixed bag of results so far this pre-season, the latest was a 2-1 defeat to Knaresborough Town last Saturday. This evening’s fixture is against Grimsby Borough and is expected to be another tough test for Chris Bolder’s men.

Hull FC hopefully will be away at Huddersfield Giants tomorrow night. The Black and White’s have had several postponements in recent weeks and still have a threadbare squad. The last fixture happened to be a hard-fought victory over Huddersfield 17-10, in a fixture which saw several debutants from both sides. Brett Hodgson’s men will welcome back some key names; Carlos Tuimavave, Josh Bowden, Danny Houghton, and Jordan Lane all were missing in that game in June. Whilst in-form winger Adam Swift is also expected to feature after recently signing a new two-year deal with the Airlie Birds.

Hull Kingston Rovers are yet to have a fixture since their excellent run of three wins from three. Covid restrictions for both the Robin’s and their opponents has seen several games postponed and this weekend is no different. The Red and Whites were due to travel to St. Helens on Friday. That since has been postponed due to the hosts struggling with Covid isolations. Fortunately, Tony Smith’s men will have a trip to Catalans Dragons on Saturday evening. The Dragons were due to play losing finalists of the Challenge Cup, Castleford Tigers, however, that too was postponed. Last time out it took a golden point drop goal to separate the two sides in the season opener at Craven Park.
