BEVERLEY Magistrates have handed out fines of more than £1,500 to three men convicted on hare coursing charges. The court heard the offences took place on farmland near Howden and Sgt Kevin Jones, of the police Rural Task Force, told Beverley FM: “I would like to thank the members of the public and landowners who witnessed this incident and who reported it and supported our investigation.”
He continued: “We will not tolerate the barbaric act of hare coursing, not only causing unimaginable suffering to our wildlife but also causing issues for local landowners who are often the subject of anti-social behaviour and damage to their land and property. The three men, who were convicted of poaching, came from Pontefract and two villages near Barnsley.
A CARAVAN park at Routh could expand by 71 new pitches under plans lodged with East Riding Council. An application submitted to the council has proposed expanding High Farm Country Park with new static caravans on an existing field off the A1035. Planning documents stated it would see the holiday park grow to a total of 510 plots but the expansion would include a separation buffer and tree planting to screen it. No objections to the proposals have been received at this stage.
