A 77-YEAR-OLD Cherry Burton man, diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease seven years ago, is well on his way to completing a fund-raising challenge, smashing his cash target in the process. Tony Baker set-up a JustGiving page with the aim of raising £1,000 for Parkinson’s UK by walking 25 miles in 25 days. And by yesterday, the total stood at £2,035 with around three-quarters of the walk completed.
Tony says he’s been overwhelmed by support as he continues his walk around the village, with the village church’s Friendship Circle donating £155 from its recent summer event, with another £55 in individual donations from members. Updates and donations can be made via Tony’s JustGiving page here
THE AMAZING work of Beverley-based Jacob’s Well is highlighted again this week with the news that the charity is currently shipping two container-loads of aid to Zimbabwe and Congo Brazzaville and loading the next one with all sorts of medical equipment, a pick up truck and educational and agricultural supplies, which will be going to Burkina Faso. Each container costs upwards of £10,000 to buy and ship.
Next week Jacob’s Well also send its 30th shipment with mixed aid to Ukraine and says it still needs hygiene items, blankets, human and pet food, and tents. To support its work the charity is holding another of its regular Charity sales, from 9am to 3.30pm, this Saturday in the driveway to Toll Gavel Church.
