A BEVERLEY Scout group has won a £10,000 grant as part of Tesco Supermarkets’ Golden Grants Celebration Day, which saw them give away £1 million to good causes throughout the country. The 1st Beverley (St Nicholas) Scout Group has used the money to buy new equipment and tents.

Club Scout Leader Denise Hartley told Beverley FM: “We have just held our first group camp at Raywell Park Activity Centre where all sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders) were given the chance to join together … This gave us the opportunity to use some of our newly-bought tents and equipment. We also had the opportunity to lend our new tables and benches to a group of young people from Humberside Scouts for a practice camp before heading for an adventure in Austria later this year.’’

Tesco Community Grants is currently open for applications from schools, food banks, holiday clubs, sports clubs, charities and community groups. Contact Dave Ryley, Tesco Beverley’s Community Champion on 07871 572742  or email beverley.community@tesco.com
