NEARLY 130 events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee have benefitted from grants from a fund set up by East Riding Council. The fund was open for all Parish and Town Councils in partnership with other groups or organisations, such as schools or village hall associations, with a maximum grant of £500.

Successful parish council bids included Bishop Burton, Brandesburton, Etton, Leconfield, Leven, Lockington, Lund, Skidby, Tickton & Routh, Walkington and Molescroft.

THE RISING cost of living could put holidays to the East Yorkshire coast out of reach for some tourists, but draw others in. East Riding Council’s Environment and Regeneration Sub-Committee heard higher fuel prices and other essentials could see households cut trips to Bridlington and elsewhere as budgets are squeezed. But councillors also heard tourists who would typically go abroad may opt for holidays on the East Yorkshire coast if the popularity of staycations due to Coronavirus continue.

BEVERLEY Building Society is launching a charity golf day in aid of its charity of the year, the Beverley Cherry Tree Centre. It’s planned for Hessle Golf Club on Friday August 26.
