MORE THAN 200 people say they plan to attend Saturday morning’s public meeting in protest at the closure of the popular England Springs pedestrian railway crossing between Beverley and Woodmansey, As previously reported by Beverley FM, the meeting has been called by MP Graham Stuart, who said even more people had been in contact with him, opposed to the closure.
The meeting, which will be attended by Mr Stuart, will take place on the Long Lane side of the crossing at 9.30am. The MP has been working with the Open England Springs Facebook group to ensure their voice is heard and has arranged a meeting with Network Rail, who say the closure is due to increased safety concerns, based on a fatality in October 2022 and a near miss the next month.
TWO WOMEN have come forward after a police CCTV appeal following reports of criminal damage at the Flemingate shopping centre at Christmas. The appeal was made yesterday when police said around £1,000 damage had been caused to a display.
FIREFIGHTERS in East Yorkshire are hoping a strike can be averted despite this week’s ballot backing a walkout. If it goes ahead it would be the first industrial action of its kind in 20 years. Meetings will take place after unions rejected the current 5 per cent put forward with hopes an improved offer may mean the walkouts can be avoided.
Gavin Marshall, secretary of the Humberside Fire Brigades Union, said: “What we’re hoping for is a significant increase to the offer we previously had. We started off at 2 per cent, we ended up at 5.”
