Local football: Walkington in impressive form for 5-0 win
AFC Walkington 5 – 0 Hessle Rangers (Saturday November 25).
It was a bitterly cold but sunny afternoon at Broadgates for Walkington’s home fixture against Hessle Rangers, with Walkington eager to get back into league action following the postponement away to Hornsea Town the previous week.
Walkington were on the front foot from the start and with just four minutes gone Jason Crisp came close when his excellent free kick was just over. This was followed by some good link-up play between Brad Palin, Archie Brown and Luke Thompson.
Walkington were playing some neat football and the message from manger Leigh Palin was to keep passing the ball and be patient. That patience was rewarded after 35 minutes when a corner by Hessle broke down; a great ball from Archie Brown to Luke Thompson was impeccably controlled on for Matt Whitaker to score.
The second half got underway with Walkington again making a positive start and on 53 minutes a great run by Luke Thompson led to a cross yo Matt Whitaker, who bagged his second of the afternoon.cOn the hour mark a fabulous ball from the player of the afternoon, Walkington’s Archie Brown to Luke Thompson proved too much for the Rangers defence and a penalty was conceded. Up stepped Jason Crisp to make it 3-0.
On 66 minutes there was a fourth, when, after impressive control, Luke Thompson crossed for Brad Palin to score. In the final 20 minutes a great ball from a very productive Jason Crisp saw Ollie Baldwin score a fifth and final goal.
Walkington now go on to face Beverley Town away next week .
