TV star goes back to school!

Children’s TV presenter Ben Shires paid a visit back to one of his old schools, St Mary’s Primary, when he came home to Beverley last week to switch on the town’s Christmas Lights. Ben, who hosts a Guinness World Records-themed children’s show called Officially Amazing on CBBC, joined civic dignitaries for the festive event at the town’s Market Cross on Thursday.

Ben, who also attended Longcroft School while growing up in Beverley, took time out to visit St Mary’s to take part in a workshop organised by local charity Go Kids Go, which has been teaching mobility skills to young wheelchair users across the UK for 27 years. Ben, a patron of the charity, took a turn at trying out what it’s like to use a wheelchair and said it had been an amazing experience.

Go Kids Go Training manager Roy Wild said: “The children loved meeting Ben and he had great fun joining in with the wheelchair activities. Besides introducing wheelchair dance and basketball we encouraged the young people to think about access around the school and situations that might be more challenging for a wheelchair user.”
