The Bishop of Hull, the Rt Rev Alison White, who became only the Church of England’s second female Bishop when she succeeded the Rt Rev Richard Frith, in 2015, is to retire in February next year. In 2016, upon his retirement as Acting Bishop of Newcastle, Alison was joined by her husband, Bishop Frank White, who contributed to the running and development of Hull Minster, including a spell as interim Priest-in-Charge. Bishops Alison and Frank White are the first and, to date, only instance in the Church of England of bishops married to each other. Bishop Alison told Beverley FM: “I have loved being Bishop here in Hull and the East Riding. It will be a huge wrench to leave.”
