A MUCH-LOVED pet dog belonging to a Leven family has been crowned the UK’s ugliest in an on-line poll.

As previously reported by Beverley FM, Peggy, believed to be a Pug and Chinese Crested cross – or Pugese – belongs to Holly Middleton and was entered in an on-line competition run by photography printing firm Parrot Print.

Peggy (pictured), who is virtually hairless and with her tongue lolling to one side, started life as the runt of an accidental litter, and was the last one to be homed after all her brothers and sisters were selected for adoption. Holly said: “We are very aware some people would refer to Peggy as ugly. It’s always in a humorous way and we don’t take offence, and neither does she. We think she is beautiful both inside and out, and wouldn’t change her for the world.”

As part of her prize Peggy will now receive a grooming session and professional photo-shoot.

Next Monday, February 6, work will start in Skirlaugh resurfacing the mini-roundabout at Church Lane. The work will take place between 7pm and midnight across four evenings and necessitate the closure of Church Lane, with a diversion via Vicarage Lane.
