EAST RIDING Council is to spend £3 million this spring and summer repairing potholes and other damage on the region’s roads. Around 13,000 tonnes of stone chippings will be laid between April and September. In total, 146 stretches of road will be treated – different roads are chosen for surface dressing each year, from those needing the most attention, and the scheme is rotated across the East Riding.

Signs will be placed on all roads a week before the work takes place. Cllr Chris Matthews told us: “Surface dressing is always our first line of defence against potholes and other damage, and it plays an important part in protecting the East Riding’s roads for years to come.”

LIFE-SAVING defibrillators have been installed at all 10 household waste recycling sites throughout the East Riding, including Beverley, it has been announced, with staff specially trained on how to use them.

IT WAS a repeat victory for David Henderson and Chris Lees who won the Reed Group East Riding Stages Motor Rally at the weekend, which started and finished in Beverley’s Saturday Market. But their margin of victory was much closer than their win the previous year – just three seconds at the conclusion of the 45-mile event. It was organised by Beverley & District Motor Club, who estimated up to 10,000 spectators turned out to see the action.

RESTAURATEUR Ali Tekce is appealing for continued support for his East Yorkshire to East Turkey Emergency Earthquake Appeal, and is calling for donations ranging from bedding and blankets, to clothing and hygiene products to be dropped off at Anatolia in Wednesday Market. As previously reported by Beverley FM, Mr Tekce, who originally comes from Turkey, still has family in the country, many of whom were near the earthquake, which has devastated vast regions.
