RESIDENTS in the East Riding on low incomes are being urged to check whether they are eligible for the latest Household Support Fund payments. Payments of £350 are available to help those on low incomes or unpaid carers facing soaring energy and food bills. Those eligible will receive payments of £150 made by the end of July and a further £200 by the end of November.

East Riding Council has been awarded £4.1m in the latest round of the Household Support Fund from the Government to support people struggling during the cost of living crisis. To apply for the funding visit www.eryc.link/fund or call 01482 393939. The application form will be open until the end of September.

BEVERLEY MP Graham Stuart is continuing to campaign for better broadband connectivity following his recent survey which showed average broadband speeds varied enormously in the East Riding, depending on location. The results show a marked difference between the rural and urban parts of Beverley and Holderness – with average broadband speeds in Beverley, Hedon, Hornsea and Withernsea around 200mbps compared to rural parishes, which average 35.1mbps.

Mr Stuart has met with East Riding Council and KCOM to discuss the results and to press for further expansion of services.

A FLYPAST by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, due to have taken place this Saturday to mark Armed Forces Day has been cancelled due to a fault on Merlin engines fitted to some of the aircraft. The squadron was due to pass over East Yorkshire en route to Scunthorpe. This year’s Beverley Armed Forces Day will take place at Leconfield’s Defence School of Transport on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
