The sunshine has warmed up the hospitality sector with many Beverley businesses filling outside tables From North Bar to Flemingate – creating what one restaurateur described as an East Riding Riviera atmosphere. Managed pub and restaurant groups reported a robust start to post-lockdown trading but capacity is significantly reduced and total sales were down 57% on the same week in 2019. Only 1 in 4 hospitality businesses have reopened due to lack of sufficient outdoor space.

Beverley police station is participating in a crack-down on knife crime. Operation Sceptre aims to reduce the numb er of young people carrying a weapon and people are encouraged to hand in their knives, no questions asked, by depositing them in a special bin. Tourism chiefs have given bikes the boot! There may be no Tour de Yorkshire cycle race in Beverley this year, but in its place residents are being encouraged to participate in the Tour de Walkshire to fundraise for Yorkshire Cancer Research. More details and how to register here
