A BEVERLEY Scout group has received a £10,000 “golden handshake” from supermarket giants Tesco as part of its Golden Grants Celebration Day. The 1st Beverley St Nicholas Scout Group was chosen as one of 100 community groups across the country to receive a share of a £1 million hand-out.

The awards celebrated the fact that since 2016, £100 million has been awarded to over 50,000 groups through the Tesco Community Grants scheme. The Beverley group will be presented with its cheque at a ceremony at the St Nicholas Church Community Centre in Holme Church Lane on Tuesday November 1.

EAST RIDING Council’s Cabinet is being recommended to launch a formal consultation process over the recommended expansion of Keldmarsh Primary School on Woodmansey Mile. It’s envisaged that it will create space for an additional 105 pupils, needed because of the number of new homes being built in the area.

Cabinet members meeting on Tuesday next week will be told in a report that an opportunity has arisen for the council to purchase land next to the school and build an extension to create additional school places at a cost of £500,000.

RESIDENTS are being reminded that they have until December 5 to comment on the proposed updated East Riding Local Plan, which sets out revised planning policies, including housing and employment development targets for the East Riding up to 2039.
