BEVERLEY chef Eddie Scott, who sprang to fame earlier this year by winning the BBC Masterchef competition, has been nominated in the Best Young Chef category in the British Restaurant Awards, one of the highlights of the culinary year.
He will be up against 13 other young hopefuls, including Liv Barry, who has appeared on Great British Menu, and brothers Luke, Nathaniel and Theo Selby, who shared the Michelin Guide’s young chef award earlier this year. Eddie quit his job as a Humber Pilot for a career in catering after winning Masterchef and in June announced he would be taking up a role with the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass in South Dalton. The awards ceremony takes place at The Savoy in London on September 12.
ARCHAEOLOGISTS excavating a site at High Hunsley, six miles south-west of Beverley, say they may have stumbled on a medieval pub. Volunteers have spent the past three weeks searching for the remains of a village and assistant site director Emma Samuel said a large number of pottery beakers and jugs had been unearthed, suggesting a pub may once have served the village.
She said: “From their design, we know the beakers date back to about the 13th Century. The site could well have been a pub or some kind of large house, perhaps even a hostelry.
