The new Dunelm superstore at Beverley’s Flemingate Centre will open this week with music, free food and drink, competitions and giveaways, and a visit from Father Christmas. The 41,000 sq ft store will open to shoppers on Thursday, with entertainment to mark the special occasion. 

Dunelm Facebook followers can attend a preview from 8am-9am, before it opens to all shoppers at 9am. Beverley Brass Band will be performing two 45-minute slots from 9am; there will be festive biscuit decorating workshops from 10am-11am and 1pm-2pm and Santa will be greeting shoppers from 8am-1pm.

Police community support officer Lee LeGrove has urged householders to ensure all sheds and garages are secure after a shed was broken into in Sigston Road, Beverley, and three bikes and various tools stolen.

And finally, East Riding Council is reminding people that bin collection days will change over the Christmas and New Year period. It normally means bins will be collected a day or two later than normal, but dates can be checked via the council’s website at bins.eastriding.gov.uk Normal collections will restart from Monday January 10.
