MORE DETAILS have been announced of Beverley’s involvement in this year’s Tour of Britain cycle race. The Racecourse on The Westwood will be the finishing point for Stage 3 of the prestigious race on Tuesday September 5. And for the first time the whole stage will take place in the East Riding, starting at Goole and following a route that includes Howden, Market Weighton, Driffield, Bridlington and Hornsea.

It will be the first time since 2008 that the Tour of Britain has come through the East Riding. Mick Bennett, Tour of Britain race director, told us: “Stage 3 promises to be a wonderful showcase for this part of England, something that couldn’t have happened without the fantastic support of everyone in the East Riding.” Coverage of the race will be live on ITV4.

THIS SUNDAY’S major leisure event in memory of former Beverley teacher Ivan Usher will be supporting the East Yorkshire Food Bank, with those attending encouraged to donate a tin of food. The event, which runs at Beverley Leisure Centre  from 10am to 3pm,  includes a schools football tournament and the chance for the public to take part in a wide range of sports and activities.
