One of the country’s most renowned food historians will be revealing the
secrets of what Beverley people were eating more than 500 years ago as part of next month’s Heritage Open Days. Peter Brears, a consultant to England Heritage and the National Trust, will also be giving demonstrations of the elaborate food and service enjoyed in the great houses of the East Riding when he speaks at the event being held at Beverley Treasure House on Saturday September 11. Walkington residents have been told a vacancy exists on the village’s Parish Council following the resignation of Cllr John Whistler. Ten or more people now have until Friday September 3 to ask for a by-election to be held. If not the vacancy will be filled by co-option. More information here

And finally, Beverley Leisure Centre is now recycling 100 per cent of its food waste as well as disposable coffee cups and plant-based food packaging. Some will be turned into renewable energy with the remainder used as compost on local fields.
