A Government Minister has reignited the idea of an elected Mayor for the East Riding as part of wider plans to pursue further devolution of powers to the regions, despite suggestions that Boris Johnson had adopted a “go slow” approach to the Conservative party’s pledge on “full devolution” in its 2019 manifesto. In an interview with the Financial Times, local government secretary Robert Jenrick pledged to “widen and deepen” devolution even if Whitehall would not impose Mayors on any region that was opposed. Mr Jenrick said there was “interest” in creating new mayors in North Yorkshire, Cumbria and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Cannabis plants with a street value of £1.2 million and more than £300,000 in cash has been seized in a six-day police operation across Hull and East Riding villages, which ended yesterday. Beverley FM has been told a total of 39 addresses were subject to warrants or searches; resulting in ten arrests, with six men charged.
