Beverley was bustling yesterday with bright sunshine warming up the crowds despite cool temperatures. Non-essential shops reported improving footfall from Flemingate to Saturday Market. Hospitality businesses did their best to attract customers to outside seating areas with many braving the elements for cold pints, coffees and hot food.

Hull trains restarted services and attracted one passenger who told us he was making a return trip to London purely as a sign of his support for the operator.

East Riding Council has launched a campaign to ‘Do it for East Yorkshire’ encouraging residents to support their local high streets. Officials told Beverley FM that these shops and businesses will only survive if people continue to support them. But they also asked people to stay safe by continuing to follow the hands, face, space guidelines. Read more here

That message was reinforced by the police who told us that they’ve implemented increased foot patrols in East Yorkshire, especially in ‘hot spot’ areas. More from Humberside Police here.
