A SAFER ROADS Humber trial, using hi-tech detector vans equipped with Artificial Intelligence kit, may result in one of the units being used on a regular basis on East Yorkshire roads. As previously reported by Beverley FM, 225 drivers were caught not wearing a seatbelt and 54 using a mobile phone during the week-long trial.
Ian Robertson, partnership manager at Safer Roads Humber, said data from the trial would be studied prior to a meeting with American consultants AECOM, which provided the van for the trial. He said: “Nothing is off the table. We may decide to buy our own van, or we might lease one or purchase a second-hand one. Alternatively, if we feel – based on the data – the trial was not successful we will not talk about it again.”
