The Environment Agency is asking East Riding residents to become water warriors by doing their bit to keep water clean during the great British summer staycation. Officials told Beverley FM that individual actions really do count. Among other advice they are asking holidaymakers and householders not to flush anything down the toilet apart from the 3Ps – pee, poo and paper! They also asked swimmers to check the status of beaches before diving in. Most of the East Yorkshire coastline is good quality with two or three stars. Although bathing was not recommended on Bridlington’s South Beach at the weekend and Scarborough’s South Bay which has a poor classification. You can check local beaches here and read more general information here

The Mayor of Beverley is launching a new treasure hunt in the town today to raise money for charity. Councillor Linda Johnson told us she wants to raise funds for Scope, which supports equality for disabled people. The walk starts and finishes at the local charity’s shop on Butcher Row where forms are available for a £1 donation with a prize draw for those who get all 40 clues correct. More details here.

Summer fun continues at Flemingate tomorrow and every Wednesday for the rest of the month. The shopping and leisure destination is offering fun for all the family in the free sessions which organisers tell us are proving very popular. See the programme here.
