EAST YORKSHIRE’S very best pubs and bars are being celebrated as part of the latest edition of the Good Beer Guide, published by the Campaign for Real Ale, with details on the best places in the UK to find the best pints. In Beverley, four pubs are included – the Chequers Micropub in Swaby’s Yard, the Dog & Duck in Ladygate, The Monks Walk in Highgate and The Sun Inn in Flemingate.

Elsewhere, the Ship Inn on Beverley Road, Dunswell, the Barrel Inn, Walkington, The Wellington at Lund and the White Hart at North Cave are also included. CAMRA National Chairman Nik Antona said: “We believe information gleaned from the guide is absolutely vital in the drive to save our pubs from closure and campaign for policies that better support pubs, local brewers and their customers.”

MOLESCROFT Primary School is partnering with Beverley’s Jacob’s Well Appeal to support the “Love in a Shoebox” initiative to send essential supplies to the people of Ukraine.

A school spokesperson told us: “For 21 years we have sent, each year, around 420 boxes filled with small gifts to give to children all around the world. This year, we are still asking for Christmas wrapped shoeboxes (the lid must be wrapped separately) but this year we need the shoeboxes to contain unused health and hygiene products. e.g. toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gel, deodorants, shampoo, shaving gel, socks, gloves and sanitary products.”

The shoeboxes will be collected from the school on Friday November 18.
