STUDENTS from East Riding College have created new artwork to welcome visitors to Beverley station. The installations were produced by eight students from the college with support from Northern – and they spent over 150 hours creating the displays.

Tony Baxter, regional director at Northern, told us: “I would like to say a huge thank you to the incredibly talented students whose artwork now has pride-of-place at the station. It is such a wonderful welcome for everyone visiting the station and we look forward to more young artists displaying their fantastic work across the station over the coming years.”

TALKING of art, Beverley Art Gallery recently hosted a visit from celebrated British painter David Remfry, whose work will feature in a retrospective exhibition at the gallery in 2025. Born in Worthing, Remfry moved to Hull as a child, later studying at Hull College of Art, and one of the paintings he completed at the time, of the American girl band, The Ronettes, is currently on show at Beverley Art Gallery as a taster of things to come.

He has lasting memories of “wandering around Beverley with mam” and says he has always loved the town. The exhibition will be curated by Dr Gerardine Mulcahy-Parker (pictured with David Remfry and his Ronettes painting), who said: “It will be a joy to see this internationally acclaimed artist return home to East Yorkshire!”

WORK began yesterday on the construction of a new mini-roundabout at the junction of Main Street and Beverley Road in Skidby as part of the Jock’s Lodge improvement scheme. The work will take 16 weeks to complete and will include the provision of a new bus stop. More information from www.a164jockslodge.co.uk
