Tributes to Neil Pickford
Tributes have been paid to popular Beverley licensee Neil Pickford, a former Virger of Beverley Minster, who died at the weekend after a short illness. Mr Pickford, a well-known personality in the town, took on and transformed the Monks Walk pub in Highgate two years ago and had only recently also become landlord of the Lord Nelson in nearby Flemingate.
In a message posted on The Monks Walk Facebook page on Sunday, his family wrote: “It is with great sadness we announce that Neil died peacefully earlier this morning after a short illness.
Our love and prayers go out to all of The Monks Walk Community.”
The pub remained open on Sunday, as punters were invited to “raise a glass to him”. Numerous tributes to Mr Pickford have been appearing on social all week including one on twitter from Beverley Minster. It read: “Prayers from the Minster for the family of Neil Pickford, a colleague and friend who passed away this morning. Rest in peace and rise in glory.” Mr Pickford leaves a widow Gill, sons Tim and Gerald, and mother Josie.
