AMBULANCE workers in Yorkshire will stage a walk-out for eight hours next month in an ongoing pay dispute. Unite members at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, including paramedics and call handlers, will strike from 2pm to 10pm on Friday June 2. The union’s general secretary Sharon Graham said the strike by around 360 workers is designed to put pressure on the Government to reopen pay negotiations.

She said: “Workers have suffered real-term pay cuts for over a decade and can no longer afford to make ends meet, resulting in experienced staff leaving the NHS in droves.”

MORE DISRUPTION will come on the railways next week. ASLEF, who largely represent train drivers, will stage their action on Wednesday May 31 and Saturday June 3, with Northern, who operate services through Beverley, advising customers to avoid travelling on those days.

The RMT Union, which represents guards and station staff, has announced its own action on Friday June 2 . Given the impact that strikes have, early morning and late-night services on Thursday, June 1 are also likely to be affected.

BEVERLEY Art Gallery in the Treasure House will be hosting a Hayward Gallery Touring Exhibition, featuring the work of French artist Henri Matisse from this Saturday until July 1. More info here
