A MAJOR road scheme to improve the congested roundabout at the A164/B1232 Willerby Roundabout is due to begin a week on Monday, September 4, and take at least 22 weeks to complete. The £1.9m scheme involves enlarging the existing roundabout along with lane additions and traffic lights, with the aim of reducing queues and delays.

The design allows both B1232 approach lanes to turn right onto the A164 eastbound. Computer-controlled traffic signals with queue detection equipment will ensure the junction operates in a balanced manner. Additionally, both westbound lanes on the A164 will be available for straight ahead traffic, and an internal turn lane is included for right turners from the A164 eastbound.
While work is in progress, a minimum of one lane in each direction will be maintained during the day, except on Albion Lane, where periodical 7pm to 6.30am night-time closures are required. However, even with these construction conditions, delays and disruption can be expected. Temporary traffic signals will only be permitted from 7pm to 6.30am.
A GRANT SCHEME designed to provide free school holiday activities for children aged 5-16 who receive benefits-related free school meals is now open for applications covering Christmas and Easter holidays. Children can attend four free activities at Christmas, four at Easter and 16 in the summer holidays, with a meal provided at each session.
For the Christmas holidays, organisations can claim up to £5,000 from East Riding Council to offer activities such as sport, play, drama, cooking, crafts, dance, music, art or outdoor adventures. The money can be spent on things such as staff, venues, equipment, volunteer expenses, food, marketing and trips.
To apply for a Christmas grant, visit eryc.link/HAFflexigrant. The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Monday September 25. A training package is also available, offering practical games, nutritional information and courses to help providers make activities more inclusive.
