EAST RIDING Council is receiving £501,033 to tackle rough sleeping through the Government’s Homelessness Prevention Grant. The grant is part of a £654 million funding package from the Government which will be given to councils across the country to provide support to those who need it the most.

It will be used to provide temporary accommodation for families, help individuals at risk of becoming homeless pay deposits for new homes and mediate with landlords to avoid evictions.

BEVERLEY town councillors are being recommended to approve a Council Tax increase of 3.18 per cent for the new financial year, beginning to April, which equates to a charge of £47.06 for a Band D property – up from £45.61 this year. This will be additional to charges from East Yorkshire Council and the figures set for both Humberside Police and Humberside Fire & Rescue.

The Beverley precept would give the town council an income of £292,893 against a projected spend of £330,915, with the shortfall being met from reserves. The decision will be made at next Monday’s full meeting of the council.

MORE DATES have been offered for the chance to join a Beverley Minster roof tour. It’s a chance to climb a medieval spiral staircase, with 113 steps, to the rafters of the roof.

Visitors are able to take in the view to the north and south through the “wheel” windows and will be shown thetreadwheel, while the central boss will be lifted to reveal a stunning view of the floor below. All those on the tour will be given a free booklet as a souvenir of the visit. More details here
