Supermarket holds collection for food bank
Tesco’s Beverley store in Morton Lane is to host a three-day food collection on behalf of the East Yorkshire Food Bank, which operates from three centres in the East Riding, at Beverley, Bridlington and Hornsea. Last week, Beverley FM reported how the Beverley Food Bank, based at 87 Mill Lane, was desperately short of food.
The collection at Tesco’s will be held from Thursday the 30th of November to Saturday the 2nd of December and the town’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Phil Dodsworth, has said he will be among those attending on the Friday, handing out leaflets, talking to customers and accepting food donations.
Founded by local churches and community groups, Beverley Food Bank opened in 2016 and in its first year handed out three-day emergency food supplies to 3,734 families or individuals. They are currently appealing for more supplies, including tins of soup, tomatoes, rice pudding, fruit and fish as well as things like jars of pasta sauce and long-life milk.
