Students rise to the occasion with charity bake
Students on Foundation courses at East Riding College’s Beverley campus organised a Hallowe’en themed bake sale to raise money for a cause close to their tutor’s heart. The popular sale sold all manner of spooky treats and raised a whopping £469.23 for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association.
The students chose the Hallowe’en theme and baked cakes themselves which were sold alongside cakes donated by staff. English tutor Leanne Oxtoby helped the students organise the sale and suggested the charity after she received its help and support herself. Leanne is expecting a baby boy in December and found out at her 20 week scan that her baby would be born with a cleft lip.
The students wanted to show their support for the charity, who raise awareness and support parents. 1 in 700 babies a year are born with a cleft lip and palate and £20 can fund a welcome pack for new parents that contain specialist feeding bottles and information.
