Stellar line-up for Beverley festival
Beverley’s winter music festival, Stage4Beverley, returns for its fourth year in February (12th – 16th ), and looks set to bring a stellar line-up of artists to its host the East Riding Theatre.
The festival kicks off on Wednesday February 12 with the legendary blues duo Paul Jones and Dave Kelly, founder members of the Blues Band.
Other headliners announced include BBC Radio 2 and 6Music and Glastonbury TV presenter, Mark Radcliffe, who will be inviting the audience to an intimate evening of his own songs and accompanying stories focussing on his deeply personal material involving lost times, lost loves, lost friends and relatives and lost bets.
Another BBC broadcaster, songsmith , activist and raconteur, Tom Robinson will take to the stage on Friday 14th for an intimate acoustic evening.
His musical journey has included getting banned by the BBC for being Glad To be Gay, fighting fascism alongside The Clash, playing Glastonbury with Peter Gabriel, writing lyrics for Elton John, drug smuggling in East Germany, two nervous breakdowns and a period in tabloid hell after falling in love with a woman.
His one-man show presents little known gems alongside classics interspersed with hilarious anecdotes from five decades on the wilder fringes of the music industry.
The Saturday afternoon concert presents two rising stars on the folk scene, in a double billing. Nominated for 2 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards this year are The Trial of Cato and local all female folk/ Americana band The Magpies.
And to round off the event in grand style the festival welcomes back favourites, Holy Moly and the Crackers with their riotous party music for the masses. They bring their trademark expressive take on British folk, rock’n’soul, and sharp indie-rock, along with their balladeering and psychedelic trips towards the Middle East.
Their single, the barnstorming indie-rock anthem ‘Cold Comfort Lane’, was used as the credit title track for the blockbuster movie Oceans 8. Come along for the ride – the craziest party in town always has room for one more….
Other artists to be announced with further events late into the night and at the Monks Walk public house.
Tickets for this first round acts will be available from Friday 16th August with a limited number of Early Bird ones on offer.
