School allocations announced

Parents and carers of children starting infant, junior and primary schools in September 2018 will start receiving letters and emails early this week telling them which school their child will be attending. This year, three thousand and sixty-three applicants living in the East Riding applied for Reception places at infant and primary schools, with 99.2 per cent (3,040) getting places at one of their three choices and 97.7 per cent (2,992) getting their first choice of school.

A total of 19 of the 118 primary and infant schools are oversubscribed and in the case of 23 pupils they could not be given places at any of their three chosen schools. They were offered places at schools as close as possible to their home address. Overall, Only 37 East Riding children will be going to primary schools in other local authority areas, while 159 children living elsewhere will be travelling to East Riding schools.

Councillor Julie Abraham, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s portfolio holder for children, young people and education, said: “At a time when many areas in the country are facing real difficulties in finding enough primary school places, it is good to see that we are still able to give most parents places for their children at the schools they want.”
