There was a 31 per cent turnout in Thursday’s by-election to Beverley Town Council which was won by Alison Healy. The Liberal Democrat took the St Mary’s East seat with 515 votes, beating  Conservative David Elvidge by 63. Jackie Heffer for Labour received 184 votes.

Meanwhile counting gets underway today to see who will be elected the new Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner.

Motorists are being warned that Weel Bridge on Grovehill Road in Beverley will be closed for five days from Monday 17th May. It’s for essential structural work. There’ll be a diversion for people wanting to use the tip on Weel Road. Pedestrians and cyclists won’t be affected. 

A new song for the East Riding has been premiered. It’s called “Above Water” and was commissioned from composer Gavin Bryars as part of a scheme to write new songs inspired by local people to reflect life in the pandemic.
