Saturday 7th August 2021

Unusual to update the local sport during a weekend, especially with the majority of our sides playing. Hull City have announced three pieces of transfer business on Friday evening. Hull FC also have had club updates during Saturday.

Hull City announced the departure of Jordan Flores on a permanent basis to Northampton Town. Flores joined the Cobblers on loan earlier in the transfer window. However, complications with the rules involved with senior players in the 25-man squad has led to the permanent departure of the midfielder, who only spent six months at the club. Young defender Festus Arthur has left temporarily to Barrow on loan. Arthur spent much of last season out injured and will hope to gain valuable experience in League Two. The former Stockport player would have limited opportunities with Grant McCann’s side this season with Jones, Greaves, McLoughlin, and Bernard all covering the central defence. Hull City have announced the signing of midfielder Matt Smith on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The 21-year old has made almost 100 career appearances at club level, including 43 last season on loan in League One with Doncaster Rovers. Smith has also picked up 14 caps for the Welsh national team and will go directly into McCann’s squad for today’s trip to Preston.

Hull FC have announced the two-year extension to Joe Cator’s contract. The young backrower impressed in his first season winning Young Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year awards in 2020. Further performances this season has seen a deserved call-up to the England Knights team. Cator has become an essential part of Hodgson’s squad and hopes to continue developing over the coming years.

The Black and Whites game this afternoon away at Warrington Wolves has been postponed due to Covid protocols.
