East Riding of Yorkshire Council chairman Nigel Wilkinson says the authority wants to help those fleeing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He said the council was willing to offer refugees sanctuary in the East Riding and would do everything within its current powers to help.

He said: “East Riding Council is deeply saddened by the act of senseless and unwarranted war being waged by Russia upon Ukraine. We are supporting Ukraine and are prepared to offer all the support we can within our current powers, including helping those who may have to leave their home country in order to find safety in our area.”

Police say they are investigating reports of a case of indecent exposure on Beverley Westwood. It’s said the incident happened around 1.30pm last Saturday. A police spokesman said inquiries had been ongoing but they are now appealing for anyone who has dashcam footage from vehicles parked on Newbald Road and Walkington Road – between Westwood Road and Keldgate – to get in touch.

And finally, Beverley Leisure Centre, in common with others in the East Riding, is offering a special afternoon deal, which allows people access to centre facilities at a special price of £12.50 a month. The offer applies seven days a week between 1-4pm.
