Councillor Denis Healy, the leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Beverley Town Council, has stated that he hopes a recent by-election has cleared the air following acrimonious and unfounded accusations over the council’s finances. The seat vacated through the resignation of Labour Councillor Margaret Pinder over the controversy was taken by the Lib Dem candidate, strengthening their majority with 9 out of 14 members. Cllr Healey told Beverley FM that while a recent audit did identify a number of areas needing improvement, town council officers have now implemented revised procedures to address all the concerns raised.

Tomorrow sees the start of World Breastfeeding Week and East Riding Children’s Centres will be holding local events in their Breastfeeding Cafes to highlight the benefits and raise awareness of the local support available. Officials told us that breastfeeding has long-term benefits for mothers and their babies. To find out where your nearest children’s centre is, click here.

A reminder that today is the last day of Covid vaccinations administered by the Beverley Primary Care Network at the Racecourse. No appointments are needed with walk-ins for both first and second doses of both Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines. They’re open this morning up to noon and again from 1.30 to 5pm. Officials told us that while the majority of adults are now vaccinated – one of the best uptakes in the country – around 55,000 younger people in the East Riding remain unvaccinated.
