BEVERLEY Travel has been crowned the UK and Ireland’s No 1 travel agency in the annual awards organised by the Travel Trade Gazette. It had already been named best travel agency in Yorkshire ahead of the national awards being announced.

Beverley Travel opened its first store at Flemingate in January 2020 before merging the business with Kelly Cheesmans’ Sassy Explorer and reopening after the first lockdown. Karl Douglas and Kelly Cheesman, co-owners and directors, are delighted with the win and say future plans include launching their Travel Partners division, so that people can become self-employed travel agents.”More branches are a possibility, as well as launching an online booking service for simpler travel elements,” they said.

THE GYM at Beverley Leisure Centre is to close temporarily from May 22 to June 2 for the installation of new equipment and plans to hold an open day for the public on Saturday June 3.

THE ENVIRONMENT Agency says it will begin testing water quality at Bridlington’s South Beach again by mid-May after last year advising people not not bathe there because of poor water quality. The Bathing Waters Partnership, which includes Yorkshire Water, the Environment Agency and local councils, said it remains determined to discover the cause of the problem. Yorkshire Water says it’s not related to its legal discharges of sewage in the area, which happened 90 times in 2022.
