WORLD-CLASS cyclists are set to return to the roads of the East Riding later this year with Beverley being announced as a finish location for this year’s Tour of Britain race. It will see more than 100 of the world’s leading cyclists, which will include Olympic, world and Tour de France champions, racing to the finish line in Beverley on Tuesday September 5 at the conclusion of stage three of the race.
This will be the first time since 2008 that the Tour of Britain has come through Beverley although the East Riding is no stranger to international cycle races, having hosted a number of stage starts for the recent Tour de Yorkshire events as well as a UCI Para-cycling event in 2019. The race will be broadcast live on ITV4, while a nightly highlights show will also be available.
Tour of Britain race director Mick Bennett told Beverley FM: “We’re thrilled that this year’s Tour of Britain will see Beverley make its debut as a host venue for the first time! “Fifteen years may have gone by since the race passed through the iconic North Bar, but ever since we’ve wanted to bring the Tour back to town.
“We know there’s a real sense of community pride in Beverley, and this will definitely be on display for the world to see,” he said.
GAME, the leading high-street video game retailer, is today opening a dedicated section within the Sports Direct USC store at Flemingate, selling games, consoles and a wide range of accessories and merchandise. Jo Bridgeman, Flemingate Marketing Manager, told us: “It’s fantastic news. GAME brings something new to Beverley and something we know visitors have said that they would like”.
