BISHOP Burton College is leading the way supporting talented athletes in education, having been accredited by the innovative Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme’s Dual Career initiative. Backed by Sport England, the scheme recognises the college’s commitment to support young athletes gain qualifications alongside their sporting pursuits, following other interests, as well as furthering their personal development.

Kim Meadows, from the college, told us: “We have a duty of care to prepare our students for the world beyond and so having a balance of academic achievement alongside sporting success is hugely important as it provides them with choices. The vast majority of athletes inevitably pursue alternative careers once their sporting days are over, therefore having skills and qualifications means they are prepared for the future.”

YORKSHIRE Ambulance staff are set to walkout on four more days over the next two months, in a row over pay and conditions. The GMB union has announced strikes on the 6th and 20th February, and again on the same dates in March.
