MARKET traders in Beverley have been paying tribute to one of Saturday Market’s real characters – Ian Jefferson, of Jefferson’s Fruit and Vegetables, who sadly died on Tuesday.

Ian, known as Jaffa (pictured above in checked shirt), had been a well-known stall-holder on Saturday Market for many years and in announcing his passing, the market’s Facebook page said: “Ian has left an imprint on the hearts of many. Ian and his family have been a huge part of our market for many many years.”

The post continued: “Not only was he always full of smiles to customers, a close friend to our traders but he was an excellent boss and mentor to the many young people who had a Saturday job on the stall.” Customers were invited to leave cards of condolence for Ian’s family on the stall today.

The “Toys For Turkey” street party launches at 12 noon and continues until 6pm, promising a fun-filled day with street entertainment, fun activities, food and craft stalls and live music.

All funds raised will go to the children left displaced in Turkey following the devastating earthquakes in early March.
