Hospital emergency teams have been training for a major chemical spill in the East Riding. David Roney, Head of Emergency Planning, told Beverley FM that it’s particularly relevant because there are so many refineries and factories in our area. Medical staff had to don powered respirator protective suits and set up a decontamination tent for this week’s exercise. An East Yorkshire filmmaker has been recalling the terrifying moment he thought he would die, after being knocked unconscious by falling debris during terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre twin towers in New York, 20 years ago today. Paul Berriff crawled from the rubble to find he was the only living soul looking out at the burning twisted wreckage. He’s been speaking exclusively to Beverley FM and you can hear his story in this morning’s Saturday Live with Dave Fewster from 10 O’clock.

It’s the annual Bridlington Kite Festival this weekend. Organisers say that vibrant kites will be soaring high above Sewerby Fields in the seaside town.
