This weekend sees one of the biggest events of the year in Beverley, the Festival of Christmas, which starts tomorrow at 10am. And because of road closures and restricted parking, visitors are being encouraged to travel by public transport or take advantage of the Park and Ride facility set up at Beverley Racecourse, which is free.

The first bus will depart the racecourse at 9am and run every 10 minutes to and from the festival centre. The last bus to return to the racecourse will be at 4.25pm. Organisers stress the event is adhering to COVID-19  protocols so where possible please make use of the extra measures in place such as hand sanitiser stations, one-way systems, and crowd management. Face coverings (unless exempt) are now required in shops and on public transport, they are also strongly recommended in busy or enclosed spaces such as large crowds.

Following on from the Festival of Christmas, there will be a Made In East Yorkshire Christmas Market in Saturday Market every day next week, from Monday to Friday.

Beverley police station has a new Inspector in charge, Insp Rob Danby, responsible for an area that also includes Cottingham, Willerby, Hessle and Brough. Insp Danby told Beverley FM he had already identified a number of priorities to tackle, including anti-social behaviour. He said: “I am already aware of issues around the Flemingate area. As I arrived in the post, the team were already well on the way towards addressing this issue and, in just a couple of weeks, I have seen massive improvements. It is this sort of prompt response I want to see regarding emerging issues – wherever they may be.”
