Beverley is hosting the Cans Film Festival this weekend, but there’s a twist. Admission to a special screening of Tom and Jerry The Movie at Parkway Cinema in Flemingate will be two tins of food. The special screening which coincides with the famous film festival in the south of France, will be held at 11am tomorrow in aid of the East Yorkshire Foodbank. Cans of tinned fruit, custard, rice pudding and vegetables are preferred. You can take them along to the box office today to secure your place on the red carpet tomorrow.

As pubs in Beverley and East Yorkshire stock up for the Euros Final, campaigners are asking the public to spare a thought for their ‘local’ which may be struggling to recover from the Covid lockdown. The ‘Long Live the Local’ campaign is petitioning for the reform of VAT, Beer Duty, and Business Rates, to reduce what they claim is an unfair tax burden.  Organisers told us that like football, the great British pub is intrinsically linked to the nation’s culture. They’re asking local punters to sign their online petition to help save pubs calling last orders for the final time.

And the police are asking people to enjoy tomorrow night’s final responsibly. They told Beverley FM they’ll be engaging with fans to ensure everyone remains safe and within current Covid guidelines. Full police statement here
