Beverley Minster is to be open this morning so people can light a candle and pay their respects to the memory of the Duke of Edinburgh. The building will be open between 11 and 1.

The Minster also invites people to remember a teenager who died after a crash in Molescroft on Thursday night. There are floral tributes at Woodhall Way, where a 15-year-old cyclist collided with a black Honda Civic and later died in hospital. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The candidates have been confirmed for two local elections on May the 6th. There will be a three-way contest for the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner. They are Keith Hunter for Labour, Bob Morgan for the Lib Dems and Jonathan Evison as the Conservatives’ replacement candidate. That follows the decision by Craig Ulliott to step down.

Meanwhile in the St Mary’s East Ward, the vacant Beverley Town Council seat will be contested by the Conservatives’ David Elvidge, Alison Elizabeth Healy of the Lib Dems and Jackie Heffer for Labour.
