Rugby League: Rovers are Giants’ slayers
Huddersfield Giants 6 – 38 Hull KR (Thursday March 15)
Head coach Tim Sheens was overjoyed as Hull Kingston Rovers registered their second win of the season with a terrific team performance seeing them beat Huddersfield Giants 38-6 at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The home side opened the scoring in front of the Sky Sports cameras through Oliver Roberts but six unanswered tries from Andrew Heffernan, Adam Quinlan, Danny McGuire, James Greenwood and a brace from Ryan Shaw saw the Robins win comfortably.
The Robins went into the break 14 points to the good. Heffernan, Quinlan and Shaw were the first half scorers. The Giants came out all guns blazing after the restart, laying siege to the Red and Whites’ try line in the hunt for points, but when Rob Mulhern’s 80-metre break put James Greenwood over, Rovers knew the win was theirs.
The home side refused to give in, but the Robins’ defence held strong, repelling more consecutive sets of pressure before Shaw and Danny McGuire crossed to add gloss to a very strong all-round performance.
