Rugby League: Lunt continues as K.R. captain
Hull Kingston Rovers hooker Shaun Lunt (pictured) has this week been confirmed as the club’s captain for 2018, retaining the role from last season.
The ex-England international led the squad to promotion to the Betfred Super League in his first season as skipper and he’s been selected by head coach Tim Sheens to continue in the position for the forthcoming campaign.
Lunt earned a number of plaudits last year for his leadership of the first team squad both on and off the field, whilst his individual performances led to him being named the club’s Player of the Year as well as the overall Kingstone Press Championship Player of the Year in September.
News that Lunt will once again wear the captain’s armband was announced at Monday
’s gathering of the first team squad with their player sponsors for the new season, with Lunt set to lead out the Robins against Wakefield Trinity at KCOM Craven Park on Friday night, kick-off 8pm.
Lunt, who is sponsored by P&D Engineering, told www.hullkr.co.uk: “I’m delighted, especially to lead the side in Super League after we got promoted last year. The captaincy is something I’m privileged to have and it’s great for my family as well. My kids are over the moon that I’ve been made captain again and that makes it extra special.
“It was quite strange really, because I really enjoyed being captain last season, leading the team out and getting involved behind the scenes, but it didn’t really change me as a player. I just kept doing what I always do and it paid off.
“I’ve always made it clear how much I love this club and how much playing for Hull Kingston Rovers means to me, so to have the chance to be captain again is a massive honour.”
