Rugby League: Blue & Golds make the play-offs
Beverley ARLFC were confirmed as semi-finalists in the end of season top four play-offs on Saturday (Sept 9th) when Bentley last to Batley Boys 14-4.
Bentley were the only side that could deny the Blue and Golds fourth spot. And their reward is an away trip to first placed Batley this coming Saturday, with the other semi-final being between second placed Siddal Academy and third placed East Hull.
Beverley will go into the game as underdogs against the unbeaten Heavy Woollen outfit but with no shortage of optimism.
They have already given the league leaders two very good games this season . . . back in May they were defeated at home 22-30 and were also defeated 30-14 in the return fixture in the June heat.
Their opponents possess strength and size right across the park, combined with an effective offload game. It will almost certainly take Beverley’s best performance of the season if they are to progress.
Lewis Poskitt’s kicking game, combined with effective chasers, could be crucial as Beverley will need to avoid defending too many sets in their own half of the field.
A place in the final at Mount Pleasant, the home of Batley Bulldogs, on September 23rd awaits the semi-final winners. Kick-off this Saturday is 2.30pm at Staincliffe. The team bus will depart from the Potting Shed at 11.30 am with supporters welcomed.
