Rose & Crown to reopen

Plans to reopen an iconic Beverley pub have been announced by Mark Cross, licensee of the Crown and Anchor at Tickton. Mr Cross says he is confident he can make a go of the Rose and Crown on the corner of York Road and North Bar Without, which has opened and closed four times in the past two years.

Mr Cross, who will continue to run the successful Crown and Anchor says £60,000 is being spent on upgrading the Rose and Crown’s kitchen ahead on the reopening on April 1. He told Beverley FM it will be rebranded as the Rose and Crown Bar Kitchen with Benedict Porter – Mr Porter, currently head chef at the Tickton pub, will oversee the kitchen.

Mr Cross, who is also looking to open a third venue in North Yorkshire, says he is confident the Crown and Anchor can be successful and bookings are already coming in. He told us: “One of the reasons I’ve taken on this challenge is the massive refurbishment in the Beverley Arms, which will bring footfall through North Bar.”

Meanwhile, a former town pub has been given a new lease of life as a local convenience store. The Humber Keel on Coltman Avenue has reopened as a One Stop store, which is open from 6am to 11pm every day. East Riding ward councillor Kerri Harold has welcomed the opening as a boost for the Swinemoor Estate and says it gives the area more vibrancy. The shop’s opening has created 12 jobs.
