‘Reprieve’ for Cafe Velo
A popular Beverley cafe threatened with closure because of complaints from nearby residents about noise, has won a reprieve. Cafe Velo, in North Bar Within, had been granted temporary planning permission three years ago but subsequently, planning officers recommended refusal of continued permission after complaints from residents living in Wood Lane.
Now, following a noise assessment carried out by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the cafe has been given permission to continue trading. The decision was welcomed by local councillor Denis Healy, who said: “This was the right decision for all concerned. Cafe Velo is an asset to Beverley. It is an innovative, quirky, independent business, run by hard working people, which provides a great service to the wider East Riding cycling community and local people. Over 220 comments of support is a testament to that.”
As part of the permission, planning conditions have been put in place, including closing at 11pm each evening and restricting live music to no more than 24 events per year.
