Rebuff over rail franchise attack
The Department of Transport says it sees “no reason at this stage to consider making changes to the franchise” of Yorkshire rail operator Northern, which operates the majority of trains through Beverley.
This follows comments by the the mayors of Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region, who say the company should be stripped of the franchise, saying it has “consistently failed to show they are able to take the action required to restore public confidence” a year on from major issues after a new timetable was introduced.
In reply, Northern says it’s “made a large number of improvements for customers,” pointing to better punctuality, improvements in its trains, and over 2,000 new services.
